In which will be the another Punjab derby in the Punjabi film industry this year, two movies are set to lock horns again. For such an incident to happen for the third time in the first half of this year speaks about the rise in the number of Punjabi movies releasing this year. The two movies which are releasing this week might be of varying genres but have one thing in common, i.e., lack of notability.
One of them is Rana Ranbir’s ‘Asees’. Rana Ranbir, a prominent name in the field of acting and writing, has donned the hat of a director for the first time in his prolonged career. The makers of the movie have already categorised the movie under the list of ‘meaningful cinema’. However, the trailer depicts a story which is somewhat irreconcilable.
It is too early to conclude anything but whatever is seen in the trailer gives us signs of confusion and perhaps not sticking to the the core topic. By the looks of the trailer, it is visible that Asees will portray the pious relation of a mother and her son on-screen. The first half of the trailer conveys the same and to a large extent looks sensible.
Having said that, what follows appears completely off-track. The second half of the trailer sees a different angle altogether. Needless to say, both the parts seem to not have a connect with each other. It is within the bounds of possibility that upon watching the movie all these doubts might be solved. Furthermore, in a script which is written by Rana Ranbir, one hopes to have conviction in it.
Apart from directing and writing the script and dialogues of the movie, Rana Ranbir has also played the lead role in the movie. Apart from him, the movie stars Neha Pawar, Kuljinder Singh Sidhu, Rupinder Ruppi, Sardar Sohi, Pardeep Sran, Raghveer Boli, Malkeet Rauni, Vijay Tandon, Rajvir Boparai, Jaggi Dhuri, Savinder Vicky, Ravinder Mand, Samuel John, Seema Kaushal, Gurpreet Kaur Bhangu, Shavin Rekhi, Charanpreet Kaur Maan, Jyot Arora, Avrinder Kaur and Dilraj Uday.
Asees has been produced by Lovepreet Sandhu Lucky, Baldev Singh Bath and Rana Ranbir under the banner of Navroz Gurbaaz Entertainment Ltd, Basant Entertainment and Zindgi Zindabaad Entertainment. Despite no major Hindi film releasing on the day after tomorrow (22/06/2018), Asees will face competition from Devi Dutt’s ‘JATT vs IELTS’. What might also affect the box-office collection of the movie is its nominal promotion. Wondering how the makers are expecting the movie to do well without banging the drum for it.
