‘Afsar’ Movie Trailer Review: Tarsem Jassar’s job profile leads to apprehension

The first memory of Gulshan Singh’s ‘Afsar’ can be traced back to around 100 days ago when the makers had announced the movie via on-location interviews. Slated to release on October 5, the trailer of the movie has been made public at just the right time. The trailer was released a few hours ago on the official YouTube channel of White Hill Music.

Afsar will mark the debut of Gulshan Singh as a director. Having assisted Anurag Basu in ‘Barfi’ (2012) and been associate director in Bambukat‘, ‘Channa Mereya‘ and Sajjan Singh Rangroot‘, Gulshan Singh has worked in several praiseworthy movies before coming up with his own movie.

It is evident from the title of the movie and the trailer that it is based on the society’s desperation regarding government jobs and the prestige which comes along with it. The trailer starts with Karamjit Anmol giving reasons as to why becoming a Patwaari is way better than becoming a Kanungo. It more or less sums up the focal point around which the entire plot will rotate.

Tarsem Jassar, playing the lead role in the movie, is employed as a Kanungo, but others around him are unsatisfied as for them, becoming a Patwaari is something worth the praise. The obsession of being a Patwaari increases to the extent that even Jassar’s love interest asks him about the prospects of becoming a Patwaari.

Nimrat Khaira, who made her acting debut with a cameo in Amberdeep Singh’s Lahoriye‘ last year, will be seen playing the lead role opposite Jassar. Other than these names, the movie also stars Gurpreet Ghuggi, Rana Jung Bahadur, Pukhraj Bhalla and others.

Khaira is playing the role of a teacher in a government school. Ghuggi will be seen teaching in the same school as her colleague. The movie is likely to cover the ins and outs of government jobs with special emphasis on the above mentioned four characters. The presence of Ghuggi and Anmol are enough signs of the fact that the movie will be high on the hysterical quotient.

Jas Grewal, an eminent writer in the Punjabi film industry, has written the script and screenplay of Afsar. Given his successful record in the past, he can become another reason for the audiences to watch this movie.
