Channo Kamli Yaar Di Live Review | Neeru Bajwa
Welcome to the first Live Review of the year. It has taken a good 50 days for the First Punjabi Film to release in 2016.
We are covering the film from Chandigarh where there are roughly 30 people in the Audi.
Two women oriented films are releasing today – Channo Kamli Yaar Di and Neerja
One is based on a real unfortunate happening and the other is based on incidents which happen everyday in Punjab.
Pankaj Batra’s last film Dildaariyan met with a cold response at the box office while Neeru’s last Sardaar Ji was a super success.
It will be worth seeing who turns out to be Jeet in the end since the director has clarified that it’s not Harry Jawanda
It’s a U/A and 122 minutes 17 seconds long.
This is the first Home Production for Neeru Bajwa under Neeru Bajwa Entertainment. The film was earlier titled Tere Bina.
We start from a village in the interiors of Punjab. Villages in Punjab are still better than the crowded cities.
Anita Devgun plays Binnu Dhillon’s mother in the film. Guys binnu ain’t doing a comic role in this film and the director claims he’s a rare talent to have in the Punjabi industry.
But you know what you can’t keep comedy away from Binnu. His simple dialogues also seem like a punch.
Binnu plays the role of Taaji, whereas Karamjit Anmol is playing Jelly.
Neeru’s entry is what I loved about the film. Simple, lesser makeup and praying to Waheguru with simplicity on face.
The situation is that Neeru’s husband has gone to Canada after a few months of wedding, she hasn’t heard anything from him and is pregnant back home.
Anita Devgan just taker her role of Bebe to another level in this film. She played Diljit’s Bebe in Jatt & Juliet Series and here she is Binnu’s Bebe. She is a talent which hasn’t been much utilised in Punjabi Cinema.
“Ishq sirf kharche karvaunda hai, main taan kade kamaiyaan karvaunda dekhea ni.”
Rana Ranbir plays Khiddu who is binnu’s best buddy in the film. He’s like his henchman every situation whatsoever.
“Khasma nu khaave Kaneda…”, I wish lot many bebes could say this line in Punjab.
And they land in Canada. I wish it was so easy for each individual to reach Canada so easily. But it’s a film.
Binnu in Dhoti Kurta in Canada.
Channo on the hund for her Yaar in Canada.
Almost all films are shot around Vancouver in neghbouring cities because it’s less expensive to shoot there. But this one is shot at the beautiful locations in the city of Vancouver.
Imagine a sight of Binnu Dhillon walking in a Dhoti Kurta in Downtown Vancouver.
Time for some soothing music: Tere Bagair by Amrinder Gill.
Karamjit Anmol is a cab driver in Canada, who is another buddy of Binnu Dhillon.
I must appreciate the work of DOP Vineet Malhotra. DOPs are the unsung heroes who we often forget to mention but he deserves on here.
They are maintaing the suspense here by using wide shots each time the photo of Jeet comes into the frame. Playing it very intelligently.
Almost all the exterior till now has been Vancouver – Stanley Park, Canada Place, Downtown, Gastown, Burrard Street etc to name a few.
Okay it’s interval time and we are going in much more suspense.
Alcohol consumption is injurious to health. Seriously guys say no to such things. It becomes irritation for us non-drinkers and non-smokers to see these irritating disclaimers.
Aaja Ni Aaja by Gurdas Mann. In the middle of a quest to find Jeet come a song. Might be called a break in the screenplay but let’s see where it takes us.
Okay let me tell you Channo till now has been a very fine film. Neeru and Binnu deliver and deliver strongly.
Pankaj Batra looks promising yet again after Goreyan Nu Daffa Karo. I wonder why he needs to go to Canada to make fine films. He is a talent, we, the Punjabi Industry can be proud of.
By the looks of it, it’s not just a quest to find Jeet and not a drama but a thriller. No spoilers but just watch the film.
We now see Baninderjit S Bunny in the film.
You just can’t keep comedy away from Binnu. Or can you? He can crack a punch even in the most thrilling sequence and you can’t help but laugh at it.
We’re nearing the climax and looks like the suspense and all is going to be revealed.
All set for a gripping finale.
All the suspense is revealed but we won’t reveal it here. You need to watch the film to know who Jeet is.
Okay, the film has now ended. Do watch out for our in-depth review that shall be online any moment. Overall, Channo Kamli Yaar Di is a fine effort and a film well made by the team. Its good to see that the 1st film of 2016 is a good one which wasn’t the case in the last 2-3 years with films like Mere Yaar Kaminey in 2014 and Eh Janam Tumhare Lekhe which wasn’t that great came in 2015.
Neeru Bajwa and Binnu Dhillon deliver power packed performances, and the director who himself was in top natch has extracted the best out of them. The leading cast was well supported by Rana Ranbir and Anita Devgun (Punjab) and Karamjit Anmol, Baninderjit Singh Bunny & other (Canada). Special mention for the guy who played Jeet (No spoilers here).
