There is no hiding to the fact that Jassie Gill, an accomplished name in both the Punjabi music and film industry, is currently shooting for his debut movie in Bollywood. Gill will follow the footsteps of recent entries from Punjab in Bollywood in his seniors, Diljit Dosanjh and Gippy Grewal. Amidst the glare of publicity, Gill has come out with his latest single track, ‘Dill Ton Blacck’.
The title of the song was announced two weeks ago by Gill across his social media accounts. The proclamation had put to end all the speculations regarding Gill working with Badshah for his next single track. The song was released in the morning on the official YouTube channel of T-Series. At the time of writing this article, it has received in excess of a million views and is trending at #10 on the same platform.
Dill Ton Blacck has once again put in front of the audiences the quartet of singer Gill, video director Arvindr Khaira, music director B Praak and lyricist Jaani. They were last seen in Gill’s previous single track, ‘Guitar Sikhda’. While Guitar Sikhda was an archetype Jassi Gill song, Dill Ton Blacck runs counter to his natural ways.
Not that Gill hasn’t sung this genre of songs in the past. He has, and has executed them pretty well. It’s just that this time around, the coveted upshot seems away from reality. The final output is very middling and has made Dill Ton Blacck ‘just another’ song.
Badshah, someone who has it in him to turn the tables of a song on his own, has failed to do the same this time. His part is very moderate and lacks the (feeling of) excitement. What might have gone against this song is the burden of umpteen expectations. Anyone who follows Punjabi music, is bound to look forward to something exceptional after hearing the names of the artists involved in this song. Perhaps, this is what has this song below par.
