The 1st half of 2017 is over and Punjabi Cinema which people say is growing day by day still faces some challenges to attract audiences which lack star power. The 1st half even saw films with star power getting tanked at the Box Office window. Overall, this half of the year has been a poor one with just 4 films recovering their budgets and the No. of hit films coming down from 5 at the same time last year to 4 this year.

Manje Bistre, easily was the biggest Hit in the 1st of 2017 be it in India or Overseas followed by Super Singh which collected good money at the Box Office but still ends up being an average film due to it’s high budget which is north of Rs. 15 Crores. The other Hit film was Lahoriye which opened to big numbers but came down in Weeks 2 & 3 but still the film is a Hit due to controlled costs. The other Hit films of the 1st half were Rabb Da Radio and Saab Bahadar.

The average films were the ones where the Producers will be able to recover costs or reach near to recovery by adding various other revenues like Television Rights, Music & Digital Rights, Subsidies (The 3 in this list were significantly shot overseas and will receive certain amount as a subsidy) whereas the flop films include the films who recovered atleast 20-30% of their total costs whereas the list of Disasters include the films which were not even able to recover even 20% of their total costs.
