This ‘Pindan Wala Jatt’ carries an ‘Athra Subah’. He doesn’t need a ‘License’ to ‘Thokda Reha’ others with his words. It is possible for you to develop an ‘Aadat’ for his ‘Gal Jattan Wali’. If things do not work out, he can go ‘Door’, leaving you with the thought of ‘Oh (you) Kyu Ni Jaan Ske’ as to why this ‘Jattan Da Putt Mada Ho Gya’.
Anyone who listens to contemporary Punjabi songs should have guessed the name of the singer by now. It is none other than the modern-day sensation in the Punjabi industry – Ninja!
Hailing from a middle-class family in Ludhiana, singing songs for a living was not Ninja’s plan when he came to Chandigarh in search of a white-collar job. Struggle was a cardinal part of Ninja’s journey of success and prominence. His popularity has not been limited to singing songs or performing in live shows or acting in movies, his fans literally follow him to the extent of emulating his dressing sense. His signature accessory, a pair of ‘mundra’, became his USP in terms of appearance and this is what his fans imitate the most.
His debut track, ‘Annd Mannd Ka Tola’ (2014), did not last too long in people’s playlists. Nevertheless, it was his upcoming duplet of songs which gained him the required attention. Pindan Wale Jatt and Thokda Reha followed soon and Ninja was in the thick of things. By this time, Punjabi music lovers were of the opinion (regarding Ninja) that he is someone who prefers more of the angry young-man genre of songs.
This was the time when his next track, ‘Aadat’, was released. Apart from adding diversity to Ninja’s armour, this song is what gave him a new set of audience. This super-hit sad-romantic track also changed the audience’s perception towards him. He is often seen as singing this song during his live shows.
Gal Jattan Wali came out in November 2015 and was appreciated by the audience. Up to now, slowly and gradually, Ninja had developed a fan following of his own. This was also the time when people started taking him as an example. More songs followed and even more importantly, followed the stage shows.
As luck would have it, Ninja signed his debut movie in Pankaj Batra’s ‘Channa Mereya’. The movie was released on July 14, this year, and gained accolades in both India and overseas. It was the official re-make of blockbuster Marathi movie, ‘Sairat’ (2016). Ninja was appreciated for his role of ‘Jagat’. As a result of which, he has signed another movie named ‘Aahlna’. The movie is inspired from another Marathi blockbuster, ‘Ventilator’.
It would be unfair to not mention the name of Umesh Karmawala, Ninja’s manager, in an article on Ninja for he has been the backbone behind the singer’s success. With the amount of success Ninja has received in the past three years, it would not be wrong to say that this modern-day sensation has all that takes to be the next big name in the Punjabi industry.
As recently as today, Ninja has released his latest song from the album ‘Shiddat’ named ‘Roi Na’. The song is penned down and composed by Nirmaan and musically directed by Goldboy. The trio of Ninja, Nirmaan and Goldboy had also worked together during Ninja’s gargantuan hit, Aadat. In what is an eight minutes and 17 seconds long concept-based music video, Ninja has proved once again as to why he is one of the leading modern-day Punjabi singers.
The lead opposite to Ninja in the video is Mehak Gupta, who was seen earlier this year in Karma Entertainment’s exclusive star, Aatish’s, ‘Taare’ and ‘Jannat’. The video is directed and conceptualised by Dilsher Singh & Khushpal Singh. In what is another project under the banner of Karma Entertainment, the video has released on the official YouTube channel of T-Series Apna Punjab.
