Trailer Review: A quotidian ‘Dhol Ratti’

Another film which has fallen in the kitty of Punjabi film industry is Shivamm Sharma’s ‘Dhol Ratti’. The movie is set for a July 20 release which means that now all four Fridays of July will have a Punjabi movie set for release.

The trailer of the movie was released on the official YouTube channel of Yellow Music yesterday. At the time of writing this article, it has received close to one million views and is trending at #14 on the same platform.

Dhol Ratti will mark the second coming together of director Shivamm Sharma and writer Babbar Gill in the Punjabi film industry. The duo had earlier joined hands in ‘Bhagat Singh Di Udeek’, which was released earlier this year.

The movie stars Lakha Lakhwinder Singh and Pooja Thakur in lead roles. Apart from them, Arsh Chawla, Malkit Rauni, Harby Sangha, Gurpreet Bhangu, Rupinder Rupi, Anita Meet, Harinder Bhullar, Babbar Gill, Amritpal Chotu, Manju Mahal, Ikatar Singh and Khushi Verma will be seen playing pivotal roles in the movie.

Dhol Ratti will be added to the long list of period movies being made these days in our industry. It is an exemplary of the fact that Punjabi film makers like to stick to one topic and repeat it to the extent that movies start sounding terribly low at the box-office.

The movie will portray the times of 1970s when an emergency had struck the nation. It is during this time that the lead pair in Lakha Lakhwinder Singh (Dhol) and Pooja Thakur (Ratti) have to relocate to another village and is that is how the story unfolds. With the emergency situation in the background, the movie is expected to cover the influence of bad company on an individual.

It is this bad company accompanied by bad intentions which make an individual walk a different path altogether. It is evident enough from the trailer that what will follow is disturbed family relations and bad reputation in the village. Whether the character in question will be able to improve this tarnished image and gain his family confidence’s will only be known upon watching the movie.
