A sterling singer and music producer in not just Punjab, but, India as well, Dr. Zeus, has come up with his latest track named ‘Woofer’. The song is a collaboration of Dr. Zeus, Snoop Dogg, Nargis Fakhri and Zora Randhawa. It was released yesterday on the official YouTube channel of BeingU Music in partnership with Sony Music India. At the time of writing this article, it has received in excess of 1.5 million views on the same platform.
Notwithstanding the presence of some distinguished names in the industry, the song has failed to stand tall on its expectations. In circumstances where it is receiving a mixed response from the audience, it appears to be another middle-of-the-road track. Whether the working together of these artists was a forced coopetition? It is for you to decide.
Now, there are two ways of reviewing this song. The first one is that this urban Punjabi hip-hop track from the album Global Injection features someone of Snoop Dogg’s stature in it. A combination such as this has it in it to take the Punjabi music industry on a universal platform. It isn’t the first time that Snoop Dogg has featured in a Punjabi song. Earlier, he was seen rapping in Jazzy B’s ‘Most Wanted’ (2015).
Another one is from the perspective of a native Punjabi individual. For someone, who isn’t as urban as this song, he/she might consider the lyrics of the song, especially Snoop Dogg’s part, objectionable. Agreed that this might be his most natural style, but, things could have been tinkered with, especially after considering the target audience.
Randhawa’s performance was commonplace in this song. His part was written by Jaggi Jagowal and could have been much better. The song is musically directed by (no points for guessing) Dr. Zeus. The music video is produced by Gurjot Singh and Akshit Kumar, founders of BeingU Music.
Another name of consequence which has not only featured in this video but also made her debut as a singer is Nargis Fakhri. Watching the ravishing actress from Bollywood in a Punjabi song is turning out to be a delight for the Punjabi audience. Her lyrics have been penned down by Ranaye Kaye.
