Diljit Dosanjh Responds to Trolls Over Concert Infrastructure Remarks, Finds Support in PM Modi’s Statement

Singer and global performer Diljit Dosanjh has addressed the criticism he faced after calling out poor concert infrastructure in India, defending his stance with both humor and facts — and even citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent endorsement of the same issue.

In a recent live session, Dosanjh revealed that he had been trolled online for raising concerns about the lack of proper facilities for large-scale music events across the country. Detractors argued that India already had decent venues and claimed that Dosanjh was overstepping by commenting on the broader industry.

Responding with his signature wit, Dosanjh quipped, “Oh ta Modi Saab ne bhi kiha… mai kalle ne thori kahi,” implying that even the Prime Minister echoed similar views. He went on to share that during a past interaction with PM Modi, he had directly discussed the need for better infrastructure to support the growing live entertainment scene in India.

The conversation comes months after Dosanjh’s Dil-Luminati Tour in December 2024, where he encountered several issues related to venue quality, particularly in Chandigarh. Despite strong fan attendance, he noted that the infrastructure failed to match international standards — something he believes holds back India’s potential in the global live music scene.

Dosanjh emphasized that concerts are more than just entertainment. “These events generate jobs, boost local economies, and contribute significantly to tourism and culture,” he said. “But if we don’t invest in proper venues, we’re holding ourselves back.”

His remarks came under renewed scrutiny earlier this year, following Coldplay’s successful shows in Mumbai and Ahmedabad in January 2025. Some critics pointed to these events as proof that India already has capable venues, suggesting Dosanjh should focus on organizing his own concerts better.

But the tide turned when PM Modi, during the Utkarsh Odisha – Make in Odisha Conclave, publicly highlighted the untapped potential of India’s “concert economy.” He called for both government and private sector efforts to develop better infrastructure to attract global talent and support domestic artists.

The Prime Minister’s remarks were widely seen as a direct validation of Dosanjh’s earlier concerns. Fans and supporters quickly rallied online, defending the singer and pushing back at critics. “When even the Prime Minister agrees, what are the trolls talking about?” wrote one user on X (formerly Twitter).

Looking ahead, Diljit assured his fans that the 2026 leg of his tour will set a new benchmark. “This time, we’re planning something bigger, better, and more organized,” he said. “Everyone deserves a world-class experience — performers and audiences alike.”

As both industry leaders and policymakers begin to recognize the economic and cultural value of live events, Dosanjh’s message appears to have struck the right chord — and it’s finally getting the attention it deserves.
