Diljit Dosanjh’s Dil-Luminati world tour turned out to be one of his biggest career milestones, taking him to multiple continents and attracting massive audiences. But according to the singer-actor, the title of the tour wasn’t the result of deep brainstorming — it actually came from a playful jab during a performance.
The unexpected origin
In a recent conversation with Zane Lowe for Apple Music’s Takeover series, Diljit recalled that the idea for the name came during a concert in New Zealand last year. While performing, he incorporated a move he calls “chakra” — a circular flow in his act.
“Someone in the crowd teased me, saying I was Illuminati,” Diljit recounted. “I didn’t even know what Illuminati meant at that time. Since they were making fun of me, I thought, ‘Alright, let’s run with it.’ That’s when I decided to name my tour Dil-Luminati — and I loved how it sounded.”
Fans respond with humour
A clip of this revelation, shared on Instagram on Tuesday, quickly caught fans’ attention — not just for the story, but for the way Diljit expressed himself in English. Comments poured in, with one fan joking, “English aa gyi, fr” (You’ve learnt English), and another writing, “ENGLISH AAGI OYEEE.”
The tour’s massive reach
Launched in April 2024, the Dil-Luminati tour travelled from India to the US, Canada, Europe, and the Middle East, drawing millions of attendees. The shows grossed $38 million in North America, $34.6 million in India, and around $137 million worldwide.
In India, Diljit performed in several cities, including Delhi, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Pune, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Indore, Chandigarh, and Guwahati.
What’s next
The artist is now gearing up for his next big musical venture. Diljit revealed plans to release his upcoming album Aura on September 24, promising a completely refreshed live tour experience to accompany it.
