Indian rapper Badshah has landed in hot water over his recently released song ‘Velvet Flow’, as members of the Christian community in Punjab have filed a formal FIR against him, accusing the artist of hurting religious sentiments and portraying the Holy Bible and Church in a derogatory light.
The controversy stems from lyrics in the track, which, according to Pastor Gaurav Masih Gill, President of the Punjab Christian Movement, equate religious scripture with boredom and depict the church as an eerie or negative space. “The lyrics mock sacred symbols of our faith. This is unacceptable,” said Gill, adding that the community was shocked after listening to the song.
After receiving a tip-off from a friend, Pastor Gill said he personally listened to the song and confirmed that several lines were obscene and deeply disrespectful toward Christian beliefs. The movement has since demanded that the song be taken down from all digital platforms, including YouTube and streaming services.
The FIR names Badshah and his production team, citing blasphemy and intent to outrage religious feelings under relevant IPC sections. The police are yet to issue an official statement on the case, but sources say preliminary investigation has begun.
The incident has reignited debate on the limits of artistic freedom versus cultural and religious sensitivities in the Indian music industry.
