Sardaar Ji 3 Global Box Office: Diljit Dosanjh’s Film Rakes in Rs 33.60 Crore in One Week Despite India Ban

Despite being caught in a storm of controversy and facing a theatrical ban in India, Sardaar Ji 3, starring popular Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh, has made a thunderous global debut, collecting Rs 33.60 crore (gross) overseas within just one week of release.

The horror-comedy, which hit international screens on June 27, has emerged as a box office winner despite the absence of Indian screens, one of the film’s major potential markets. The movie skipped its India release after backlash erupted over the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, following rising diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan post the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

The film’s team took to Instagram on Friday to share the milestone achievement. A promotional poster declared: “SARDAAR JI 3 Record Breaking OVERSEAS. MASSIVE GLOBAL TURNOUT. ONE WEEK—33.60+ CR* (GROSS) SARDAARJI 3. NOW IN CINEMAS.”

Directed by Amar Hundal and produced by Gunbir Singh Sidhu, Manmord Sidhu, and Diljit Dosanjh himself, Sardaar Ji 3 has resonated with global Punjabi audiences and cinema lovers alike. Videos circulating on social media also show packed cinema halls in Pakistan, where the film is enjoying strong word-of-mouth and enthusiastic crowd response.

The film became a flashpoint after news broke that Diljit Dosanjh would share screen space with Pakistani star Hania Aamir, an announcement that came amid rising Indo-Pak tensions. Responding to the uproar in an interview with BBC Asian Network, Dosanjh clarified that the movie was shot in February, before the escalation of political and military hostilities.

While Dosanjh has faced significant criticism on social media, several prominent voices from the entertainment industry have come out in his support. Renowned filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, who directed him in Amar Singh Chamkila, along with lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar and singer Jasbir Jassi, have all backed the actor, emphasizing artistic freedom and the importance of separating politics from cinema.
