5 most-awaited Punjabi films of 2021: Punjabi Mania present for you five most-awaited films which will release in cinema halls next year.
Had it not been for the COVID-19 pandemic this year, Punjabi films would have continued to rise at a towering speed to the extent that the record for most number of Punjabi films released in a year would have had a new contender.
With a large chunk of those movies now shifting to 2021, expect the imminent year to witness a record number of Punjabi movies despite a late start on the cards. The same will also have it in it to possess a daunting challenge in front of distributors for the industry can hardly afford consecutive clashes.
5 most-awaited Punjabi films of 2021
Qismat 2
A sequel to the 2019-blockbuster titled 'Qismat', 'Qismat 2' will reunite the much adored on-screen couple of Sargun Mehta and Ammy Virk. Tania, who put on display a soul-stirring performance in Jagdeep Sidhu’s ‘Sufna‘ earlier this year, has buzz on her side regarding playing a special and contrasting role in Qismat 2.
The trio had begun shooting for the movie in October and have even completed its schedule in India. In September 2019, Sidhu had himself announced the release date of Qismat 2. However, due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, the release date was postponed to April next year.
Fans must note that the global pandemic might further postpone the release of Qismat 2 but it should be available in cinema halls in 2021. It is worth mentioning that Zee Studios have joined hands with Shri Narotam Ji Studios to bankroll Qismat 2. Zee Studios will also be distributing the movie.
Jodi
Again, it was the COVID-19 pandemic which didn't allow a Diljit Dosanjh Punjabi movie to release in the year 2020 making it the first year this decade to not witness Dosanjh on the silver screen (in a Punjabi movie).
'Jodi', which was originally scheduled to release on June 26, will now release on a yet-to-be-mentioned date in 2021. Co-starring Nimrat Khaira, Jodi has been directed by writer-turned-director-turned-actor Amberdeep Singh. In 'Bhajjo Veero Ve', the last Amberdeep had directed a movie was more than two years ago.
Dosanjh and Khaira, who will be working together for the first time, will be portraying the role of a singer-couple in Jodi which further ups the expectations with respect to the movie.
Dakuaan Da Munda 2
On the second anniversary of super-hit Punjabi movie titled 'Dakuaan Da Munda' earlier this year, renowned production houses in Dream Reality Movies and Omjee Star Studios had revealed the cast of 'Dakuaan Da Munda 2'.
Originally slated to release on September 11 this year, a delay in the schedule followed by the COVID-19 pandemic made it impossible for the makers to release the movie this year.
It was in November that Dev Kharoud and Japji Khaira had begun shooting for the movie under director Mandeep Benipal, who had directed the first part as well. Much like the first part, the script of the second one has also been developed by Mintu Gurusaria.
Paani Ch Madhaani
A primary reason why Vijay Kumar Arora's 'Paani Ch Madhaani' is being eagerly awaited by fans is that it will reunitethe superstar pair of Gippy Grewal and Neeru Bajwa on-screen after a decade.
Shot in UK amidst the global pandemic, Paani Ch Madhaani also has crucial roles for Rana Ranbir, Karamjit Anmol and Harby Sangha. Originally scheduled to release on February 12 next year, the movie is likely to face a delay but should be made public around the summer season.
Paani Ch Madhaani has been produced by Mani Dhaliwal, Sunny Raj and Dr. Prabhjot S. Sidhu under the banner of Dara Films Entertainment.
Shareek 2
The novel pair of Jimmy Sheirgill and Dev Kharoud playing lead roles against each other is enough to entice Punjabi fans to the cinema halls for 'Shareek 2'. The shooting of the movie had begun in February this year but was subsequently halted by the nationwide lockdown.
Navaniat Singh, who had directed 'Shareek' (2015), has directed its sequel as well. Having worked with Sheirgill on multiple occasions in the past, it is the first time when Singh and Kharoud have worked together.
As the title suggests, there is no hiding to the fact that Shareek 2 will be a family drama encompassed with animosity. Punjabi Mania understands that Shareek 2 also stars Mukul Dev, who had played the antagonist in the first part. Apart from Kharoud, veteran actor Yograj Singh and actress Sharan Kaur will also be seen as new-comers (in the franchise) with titular roles in Shareek 2.
