In which will be the another Punjab derby in the Punjabi film industry this year, two movies are set to lock horns again. For such an incident to happen for the third time in the first half of this year speaks about the rise in the number of Punjabi movies releasing this year. The two movies which are releasing this week might be of varying genres but have one thing in common, i.e., lack of notability.

One of them is Devi Dutt’s ‘JATT vs IELTS’. The movie will mark the directorial debut of Devi Dutt. Apart from directing the movie, he was also penned down its script. The trailer of the movie was released almost four weeks ago on the official YouTube channel of Yellow Music. At the time of writing this article, it has received in excess of 1.5 million views on the same platform.

As the name suggests, the movie is based on the struggle of an individual to score appropriate bands in his IELTS examination in a bid to achieve his dream of going to Canada. As if the obsession of Punjabi people going to foreign countries was not enough that now we have a whole movie on it. The subject in itself appears commonplace with a high possibility of watching something on the big screen which we have already seen in the past.

Ravneet, a renowned anchor, who made his acting debut in Ksshitij Chaudhary’s ‘Bailaras’ last year, is playing the lead role in the movie. Apart from him, the movie stars Gurpreet Ghuggi, Khushi Malhotra, Deep Sehgal, Hobby Dhaliwal, Anita Devgan, Khyali, Sukhbir Batth, Naveen Walia, Mandeep Ghai and Jaswant Mintu. The presence of acclaimed Punjabi actors like Ghuggi, Dhaliwal and Devgan might also not able to change the fortune of this movie.

Keeping aside the dream of going abroad, the movie is expected to shift on romantic grounds. An assumption like this has been inferred from the songs of the movies. Out of the three songs (all lacklustre) that have released so far, two are sad and one is a romantic track. Ishant Pandit has given the music of the movie.

The movie has been edited by Suvrakanti Chakrabarty. Sukhbir Batth, Jaswant Singh (Mintu) and Deep Ghumn have written the dialogues of the movie. JATT vs IELTS is produced by Malvinder Sandhu, Palmit Sandhu and Navdeep Bhinder under the banner of Black Roz Entertainment & Spy Films Pvt. Ltd.

The trailer of a movie like JATT vs IELTS leaves you with the doubt as to whether film makers really give a thought before making movies or just do it for the sake of it. A below par trailer, ordinary songs and minimal promotion doesn’t sound like things to be heard two days before the release of a movie.

If you haven’t watched the trailer of the movie as yet, watch it below and share your review about the same in the comments section:
