Actor KRK Taken into Custody Over Alleged Firing Incident in Mumbai’s Andheri

Actor and film critic Kamaal Rashid Khan, widely known as KRK, was arrested by the Oshiwara police on Saturday in connection with a firing episode reported earlier this month in the Andheri area of the city, officials said.

Confirming the development, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 9) Dikshit Gedam said the actor acknowledged that two rounds were discharged from his licensed firearm while he was reportedly cleaning it. The weapon has since been seized, and legal formalities related to the case are in progress.

The incident dates back to January 18, when residents of Nalanda Society in Oshiwara were alarmed after gunshots were heard in the vicinity. Subsequent searches led to the recovery of two bullets — one lodged inside a second-floor apartment belonging to a writer-director and another found on the fourth floor, where a model resides. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

A special investigation team comprising 18 officers from the Oshiwara police station, under the supervision of senior inspector Sanjay Chavan, along with multiple crime branch units, was constituted to probe the matter. While initial scrutiny of CCTV footage from nearby locations failed to provide significant leads, forensic examination of the bullets later proved crucial.

According to investigators, ballistic analysis suggested that the shots originated from KRK’s nearby bungalow, prompting the police to focus their inquiry on him. Following questioning, he was taken into custody.

Police said further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances that led to the firing and whether any safety norms were violated.
