Actor and humanitarian Sonu Sood has appealed to both the central and state governments to provide urgent financial assistance to Punjab’s farmers after the state witnessed its worst flooding in years.

Sood, who is personally supervising relief operations with his team, said that the scale of destruction is unimaginable. According to him, over 1,400 villages have been submerged, lakhs of people displaced, and vast stretches of agricultural land ruined. “This is not just a natural disaster; it is a humanitarian crisis that has left families without homes, income, or security,” he remarked.

The actor underlined the plight of farmers who were already under financial pressure before the floods struck. “Many of them had taken loans for cultivation. Now, with their fields destroyed and cattle missing, they are left helpless. It is time the government intervenes by waiving its debts,” he said.

While acknowledging the efforts of local communities in supporting each other, Sood stressed that rebuilding would require long-term planning. “Our teams will continue visiting every affected village. Once the water recedes, the actual scale of loss will become clearer. People need homes before winter sets in, or survival will become even more difficult,” he added.

Sood’s remarks have amplified growing voices from Punjab’s farming community demanding immediate relief, including debt cancellation and compensation for crop and cattle losses.
