Punjabi superstar, Babbu Maan, released his new single track, ‘Samundar’, today. Having released ‘Mehndi’, ‘Gorgeous’ and ‘Baarish Ke Bahane’ in March, May and June respectively this year, this is his fourth track of the year. Maan, who perhaps has the most messianic fan following in the Punjabi industry, has experimented a lot of late.
Maan’s insouciant nature, somewhere, has also become his strength. Notwithstanding what some particular sects think about his latest work, he has continued to do what he feels falls in line with the contemporary trend. His metamorphosis as an overall musician, who sings his own lyrics in his own music, is not only limited to the musical part, but, has also been seen in his music videos.
For someone to like or dislike his recent work is another thing, but, one has to credit him for being comfortable enough to sing in both Hindi and Punjabi in the recent times. Post the success of Baarish Ke Bahane, Maan has gone deep into the language with Samundar now.
Like many of his songs, this one is also sung, written and musically directed by Maan, himself. The lyrics are nothing but tailor-made for his soulful voice. The song, which is more of a ghazal, has been penned down in a way that it will leave an impact on the audience. What will increase the extent of the impact is the concept of the video, which is worth praising. Due credits for the same goes to director Sukh Sanghera. The video has been launched under the banner of Swag Music.
