Mumbai: An alleged threat connected to the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang has prompted Mumbai Police to enhance security around actor Ranveer Singh and filmmaker Rohit Shetty after a chilling voice note surfaced online.
According to police sources, the audio clip contains a warning that severe consequences would follow if certain demands were not met. The caller reportedly threatened that even the “entire staff” associated with the two film personalities would face dire repercussions. The message, which spread rapidly across social media platforms, is now at the centre of an ongoing probe.
In the recording, the individual identifies himself as “Hari Boxer,” claiming affiliation with the gang led by jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The speaker allegedly states that failure to comply would result in consequences that “the next seven generations will remember.”
The Mumbai Police and the Crime Branch have initiated a detailed technical examination to determine the authenticity and source of the audio. Investigators are analysing voice samples, digital footprints, metadata and routing patterns to verify whether the clip genuinely originates from the Bishnoi network or if the gang’s name is being misused to intimidate high-profile figures.
Officials are also exploring a possible link between the threat and a recent firing incident reported outside Shetty’s residence, though no direct connection has yet been established.
As a precaution, security has been stepped up at the residences and workplaces of both Singh and Shetty. Senior officers have said the matter is being treated with utmost seriousness, but emphasised that conclusions will only be drawn after forensic verification is complete.
Authorities have reiterated that any attempt to issue threats under the banner of organised crime will invite strict legal consequences, and efforts are underway to identify those behind the circulation of the voice note.
