Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana has reportedly received an extortion threat from a caller claiming to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, with the unidentified person allegedly demanding several crores of rupees. The incident has raised fresh concerns over the safety of film personalities, particularly after a similar threatening message was recently received by actor Tusshar Kapoor.
According to the available information, police are examining the audio recording of the call and comparing the caller's voice with samples available in their records to establish the identity of the person behind the threat.
The development follows the threatening audio message received by Tusshar Kapoor, in which the caller reportedly identified himself as Harry Boxer, a name associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
During the investigation into the Tusshar Kapoor case, the Crime Branch's technical team analysed the recording and compared it with existing voice samples of Harry Boxer. Senior police sources indicated that the voices did not match, raising the possibility that someone had impersonated the gangster's associate to issue threats and demand money.
The latest incidents come amid heightened security concerns in the Hindi film industry following the firing attack involving actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai's Juhu area on October 18. Shroff escaped without injuries, although his driver and a passerby sustained injuries during the incident.
Members claiming links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang reportedly took responsibility for the shooting. Police have also identified jailed gangster Bishnoi's associate Anil Pandit as a wanted accused in the case. So far, 13 people, including the alleged shooters, have been arrested.
Investigators have also been examining claims that the accused had conducted reconnaissance near the residences of several prominent Bollywood personalities, including Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar.
Bollywood Stars Tighten Security Arrangements
The incidents have prompted several celebrities to review their personal security arrangements. Actor Ronit Roy, who also operates a private security agency, confirmed in an interaction with NDTV that demand for additional protection among film personalities has increased.
He said the measures were largely preventive, with celebrities seeking stronger security arrangements to avoid potential risks.
Security personnel associated with celebrity protection have also reportedly increased precautions for their clients following the Juhu firing incident.
Amitabh Bachchan was recently seen greeting fans outside his Juhu residence from behind a bulletproof glass enclosure during his customary Sunday appearance. His son Abhishek Bachchan was also present, keeping an eye on the security arrangements.
Additional precautions were visible during Shah Rukh Khan's birthday celebrations at his Mumbai residence, Mannat, on November 2. A large police presence was deployed in the surrounding area, and access to the lane outside the bungalow was restricted initially.
The superstar later appeared on the terrace of his residence with his family to acknowledge fans gathered outside. Unlike his traditional birthday appearances, he maintained a greater distance from the crowd and greeted admirers from the terrace rather than approaching the boundary wall or the specially constructed staircase.
With Ayushmann Khurrana now reportedly receiving an extortion threat, the investigation into these incidents has brought renewed attention to the security challenges facing Bollywood celebrities. Police investigations are continuing to establish the identities and possible affiliations of those making the threatening calls.
