Popular Indian rapper Badshah has reportedly been threatened by individuals claiming ties to the Lawrence Bishnoi Gang, days after his latest Haryanvi track Tateeree triggered widespread debate and criticism online.

According to reports, a message circulating on social media warned the singer of violent consequences, accusing him of disrespecting Haryana’s cultural values through the lyrics of the song. The post allegedly stated that the rapper would be targeted if he continued to release such content.

The threat also referred to a 2024 incident in Chandigarh, when an explosion occurred outside Seville Bar and Lounge, a club reportedly owned by the artist. At the time, Goldy Brar, believed to be associated with the Bishnoi network, had claimed responsibility for the blast.

In the same message, two individuals identifying themselves as Randeep Malik and Anil Pandit claimed involvement in a recent firing incident at a money transfer office in Panipat. They alleged the location was linked to hawala transactions and warned others engaged in such activities to stop.

Authorities have yet to officially confirm the authenticity of the message, though law enforcement agencies are expected to review the development in light of ongoing concerns about threats linked to organised crime groups.

Song controversy sparks complaints

The reported threat comes amid ongoing backlash over Badshah’s track Tateeree, which some critics say contains inappropriate lyrics and visuals involving women and minors. The song, released on the singer’s YouTube channel, quickly gained traction online but also sparked protests and criticism from several groups.

A complaint was filed by a resident of Panchkula, leading to a police case being registered against the performer.

Addressing the controversy earlier, Badshah apologised publicly and clarified that the lyrics were not meant to offend anyone. He emphasised his deep connection with Haryana and said he has always tried to represent the state’s culture positively through his work.

The rapper also explained that competitive and exaggerated lyrics are common in the hip-hop genre but admitted that if the song hurt public sentiment, he sincerely regretted it.
