Mansa: Balkaur Singh, father of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, has postponed the remaining performances of his son’s “Signed to God” hologram tour in Canada and the United States following the killing of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota in Mansa.

Announcing the decision on social media, Balkaur Singh said the prevailing situation in Punjab and the protests following Jhota’s death had prompted him to put the upcoming shows on hold. Emphasising his connection to his home state, he said, “For us, our Punjab comes first.”

The decision means fans in Calgary and other scheduled venues in the United States will have to wait for the performances to be rescheduled. Balkaur Singh apologised to those who had been looking forward to attending and expressed hope of returning with a renewed presentation of Moosewala’s music.

He also thanked audiences in Toronto and Vancouver for their support, noting that the shows held in those cities had drawn full houses. Those performances have already taken place, while the remaining dates have been suspended for now.

Protests following Jhota’s death

The announcement comes amid continuing public anger over Jhota’s killing. According to the information provided, the anti-drug activist was shot at a medical store in Mansa on October 13, prompting protests and demands for justice.

Balkaur Singh, who lives in Musa village near Mansa, has maintained a strong connection with the region. He is also being discussed as a possible Congress candidate for the Mansa Assembly constituency.

He had travelled to Canada with his wife, Charan Kaur, and younger son, Shubdeep Singh, popularly known as Nikka Sidhu, for the hologram tour.

Neeru Bajwa, Hardeep Grewal also halt films screening

The response to Jhota’s killing has extended beyond the music industry. Punjabi actress Neeru Bajwa announced on Sunday that screenings of her recently released film Thappi would be suspended from Monday.

The film, which premiered worldwide on October 16, was taken off theatrical schedules in view of the public outcry surrounding the killing, according to her social media announcement.

Likewise, Hardeep Grewal also announced the postponement of the film 'Daudaak', which was originally scheduled to release on October 23.

The decisions by Balkaur Singh and Neeru Bajwa reflect how the protests have affected entertainment-related activities, as calls for justice continue in Punjab. Both announcements have placed the focus on the ongoing public response to Jhota’s death.
