Censor Board halts Toofan Singh’s release

Punjabi Film Toofan Singh is having tough times getting a certificate from the censor board. The film’s release on July 15, 2016 has been cancelled pending censor certificate required to showcase films in India.

Toofan Singh based on the life of Bhai Jugraj Singh Toofan is a film of militancy period in Punjab. The members of Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) who saw the film were mum on whether to give a go ahead to the film or not. Punjabi Mania has learnt that the authority now rests with the Chairman, CBFC.

The film is directed by Baghal Singh. This is his first feature film, also singer Ranjit Bawa is to debut in Punjabi Film Industry with this film. A refusal from CBFC to certify the film will result in the film getting banned in India.

The film is based on dark years of Punjab, CBFC has earlier too blocked films on extremism. Master Mind Jinda Sukha couldn’t release in India because of CBFC deciding not to issue certificate to the film. Few months back, Once Upon a Time in Amrtisar missed it’s initial release because of a delay in getting censor certificate.
