For a long time in the Punjabi film industry, filmmakers converted films into franchises just to reap the commercial benefits. It has required a radical change across spheres which has given rise to sequels where the story actually gets carry forwarded from its first part rather than making a lookalike of the first part in the name of a sequel.

Imminent Punjabi movie titled ‘Chal Mera Putt 2’ will become the fourth such movie in the last 12 months where the same characters from the first part will be seen carrying the narrative ahead in the second one. What makes it all the more interesting is the fact that ‘Chal Mera Putt’ had also released in the same 12-month period.

Chal Mera Putt 2’s trailer had released on the official YouTube channel of Rhythm Boyz just over two weeks ago. At the time of writing this article, it has received in vicinity of a whopping nine million views on the same platform.

The movie will witness Amrinder Gill, Simi Chahal, Gurshabad, Hardeep Gill, Iftikhar Thakur, Nasir Chinyoti and Akram Udas continue their pivotal roles from the first part. Four new additions to the franchise include Zafri Khan, Ruby Anum, Garry Sandhu and Nirmal Rishi.

Much like the first part, the second part has also been written and directed by Rakesh Dhawan and Janjot Singh respectively.

Soldiering on with the anecdote of Punjabi immigrants in England, Chal Mera Putt 2 will throw light on how forbearance plays a significant role in the concerned individuals’ attempt of getting a permanent residence.

While persistence amidst hardships forms the focal point of the franchise, one must not forget that the first part primarily revolved around amusing sequences comprising of some finest Pakistani actors. Irrespective of what the movie serves in the larger picture, comedy will continue to dominate in Chal Mera Putt 2 as well.

Slated to release on this Friday (March 13), the movie has been produced by Karaj Gill and Ashu Munish Sahni under the banners of Rhythm Boyz Entertainment, Gillz Network, Omjee Star Studios and Phantasy Films Ltd Productions.

Despite the release of Homi Adjania’s ‘Angrezi Medium’ on the same date, Chal Mera Putt 2 is expected to prosper at the box-office in Punjab. With the first part doing exceptionally well overseas, it will be interesting to see the ratio of the commerce in India and overseas this time round.
