Indian music fans are buzzing with excitement as Coldplay’s much-anticipated India tour edges closer. Adding to the hype, Coldplay’s frontman Chris Martin recently delighted fans by giving a nod to Punjabi pop icon Diljit Dosanjh during the band’s Abu Dhabi concert.
The Moment of Connection
While performing on stage, Chris Martin noticed a fan in the audience holding up a sign bearing the phrase, "Punjabi aa gaye oye"—a catchphrase made famous by Diljit Dosanjh. Not missing a beat, the Coldplay frontman read it aloud, sparking cheers from the crowd, particularly the Indian fans.
In response to the poster, Martin warmly said, "We love you too," making the moment even more special. The video of this wholesome interaction was shared on Instagram Stories by Diljit’s official team, accompanied by the caption: "Chris Martin says PUNJABI AA GAYE OYE…..!!!! Chris Martin reading Coldplay fan posters and flags is so wholesome."
The Viral Catchphrase
The phrase "Punjabi aa gaye oye," which translates to "Punjabis have arrived," gained massive popularity after Diljit Dosanjh coined it during his historic Coachella performance in 2023. It has since become a rallying cry for his fans worldwide.
Coldplay’s India Connection
Coldplay’s upcoming Music of the Spheres tour marks their return to India after nearly a decade. The band last performed in India in 2016 during the Global Citizen Festival in Mumbai. After Abu Dhabi, Coldplay is set to light up stages in Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
Diljit Dosanjh’s Stellar Year
Meanwhile, Diljit has had a remarkable 2024, excelling in both music and acting. His Dil-luminati tour captivated fans across India, and he wowed audiences with performances in films like Crew, Jatt & Juliet 3, and Amar Singh Chamkila.
