Punjabi singer and rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh informed the Delhi High Court on Friday that he did not perform the controversial track Volume 1 during a concert held in March 2025, countering allegations raised in a petition filed by Hindu Shakti Dal.
The petition sought a ban on the song, claiming it was performed publicly despite previous objections over its lyrics. During the hearing, the court directed Honey Singh to submit a formal affidavit placing his statement on record regarding the accusations linked to obscenity and the alleged performance.
The matter is being heard by Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav, who is overseeing proceedings connected to the nearly two-decade-old track associated with the music collective Mafia Mundeer. The song features both Honey Singh and Badshah.
Earlier, the Delhi High Court had strongly criticised the lyrics of Volume 1, describing them as highly vulgar and disrespectful toward women. The court had also directed that the song be removed from online platforms and streaming services with immediate effect.
The petition filed by Hindu Shakti Dal argues that songs containing explicit and objectionable content negatively influence young audiences and should not be publicly circulated. Counsel appearing in the case alleged that the track continued to gain visibility despite judicial concerns raised over its language.
Honey Singh’s legal team, however, maintained before the court that the artist had not sung the track at the event mentioned in the petition and disputed the allegations made against him.
The case remains under consideration, with further hearings expected in the coming weeks as the court examines submissions from both sides.
