After the critical acclaim of Amar Singh Chamkila, filmmaker Imtiaz Ali and actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh are teaming up once again for an untitled romantic drama slated for theatrical release in April 2026, perfectly timed with the Baisakhi festivities.
Described as a “charming tale of love and longing,” the film features a powerful ensemble cast including Naseeruddin Shah, Sharvari, and Vedang Raina, alongside Dosanjh. The story will unravel against a modern, humorous backdrop and explore the emotional depth and complexities of human relationships.
The project also marks the return of the iconic creative trio, Imtiaz Ali, AR Rahman, and Irshad Kamil, whose previous collaborations have left an indelible mark on Indian music and cinema.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind the film, Imtiaz quoted renowned Urdu poet Momin Khan Momin: “Tum mere paas hote ho goya, Jab koi doosra nahin hota” (You are with me, it seems, when there is no one else). He added that the film “has a large canvas, yet is very personal,” hinting at a narrative that is both intimate and nationally resonant.
“Can love really be lost? Can home be taken away from someone’s heart?” Imtiaz said. “This is a story of a boy and a girl — but also a story of a nation. We are diving deep into the emotional tides of this story, and we hope to surface next year with a film that moves audiences across the country.”
The film is set to go on floors in August 2025, with more updates and the official title expected in the coming months.
This upcoming venture not only strengthens Dosanjh’s evolving cinematic journey but also reaffirms Imtiaz Ali’s reputation for crafting soulful, heart-driven stories.
