Diljit Dosanjh completes 10 years: The superstar of the Punjabi entertainment industry has completed a decade of being an actor today.
Call him your Lion of Punjab or Super Singh or Soorma, this Sardaarji is no longer a Shadaa and his forthcoming Jodi is highly likely to bring Good Newwz for the whole Punjabi industry.
It was on this day in 2011 that superstar Diljit Dosanjh’s first-ever Punjabi movie titled ‘The Lion of Punjab’ had released. Less did anyone know that Dosanjh, who had freshly entered the category of singers-turned-actors in the Punjabi film industry back in the day, would go on to become one of the biggest names in the acting field 10 years down the line.
The last decade has seen Dosanjh playing lead roles in as many as 14 Punjabi movies. Had it not been for his seven Hindi movies (starting from 2016), Dosanjh’s number of Punjabi movies would have been much more.
Entering the 11th year of his acting career, Dosanjh has as many as three upcoming Punjabi movies under his belt namely Amberdeep Singh’s ‘Jodi‘ and Amarjit Singh Saron’s ‘Ranna Ch Dhanna’ and ‘Honsla Rakh‘.
Diljit Dosanjh completes 10 years in the film industry
Dosanjh, who had played the role of Avtar Singh in Guddu Dhanoa’s The Lion of Punjab, is fondly known for his characters such as Gurnoor Singh Randhawa in Mandeep Kumar’s ‘Jihne Mera Dil Luteya’ (2011), Fateh Singh in Anurag Singh’s ‘Jatt & Juliet’ series (2012-13), Shivjeet Singh in Anurag Singh’s ‘Punjab 1984‘ (2014) and Sajjan Singh in Pankaj Batra’s ‘Sajjan Singh Rangroot‘ (2018).
As far as Hindi movies are concerned, Dosanjh has primarily earned accolades for playing the roles of Sartaaj Singh in Abhishek Chaubey’s ‘Udta Punjab’ (2016), Sandeep Singh in Shaad Ali’s ‘Soorma’ (2018) and Honey Batra in Raj Mehta’s ‘Good Newwz’ (2019).
In the last 10 years, Dosanjh has unequivocally emerged as one of the most bankable names in the Punjabi industry with a lot of his movies doing record-breaking business in both Punjab and overseas.
Dosanjh’s filmography has seen him collaborating the most with prominent names such as director-producer Anurag Singh and actress Neeru Bajwa with his pairing with the latter arguably the most adored on-screen couples of the Punjabi film industry.
