Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh, who is currently on tour in the United States, had a memorable encounter on the streets of New York. While casually walking in a white jacket and jeans, Diljit was stopped by a local police car. To his surprise, one of the officers rolled down the window and joyfully announced, “Punjabi aa gaye oye!”
The lighthearted moment was caught on camera and later shared by Diljit on his social media. In the video, he can be seen smiling and interacting with the officers. One policeman revealed he is a fan of Punjabi music, while another said the playful announcement was made simply because “Bhaji was walking on the road, so we thought we should stop him in style.”
Fans Get Emotional
Along with the police encounter, Diljit also posted a video of an Indian fan who grew emotional upon meeting him. The fan held his hand tightly, calling him “our pride” and expressing gratitude. Diljit responded by placing the fan’s hand on his forehead as a gesture of respect. “Sat Shri Akal sir, my heart is full today… may you always keep rising,” the fan said.
Film Still Awaited in India
Despite his growing international fanbase, Diljit’s recent Punjabi film Sardaar G-3, featuring Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, has not been released in India due to controversy. However, the movie has performed exceptionally well overseas, crossing ?70 crore at the global box office. Fans back home continue to hope for its release.
Next Project: Border-2
On the work front, Diljit will soon be seen in Border-2. He will portray Flying Officer Shaheed Nirmaljit Singh Sekhon, the only Param Vir Chakra awardee from the Indian Air Force. Sekhon, a native of Ludhiana’s Isewal village, displayed extraordinary bravery during the 1971 Indo-Pak war, where he fought against six Pakistani fighter jets and shot down two before being martyred.
