Renowned Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh turned contestant on Kaun Banega Crorepati’s special episode that aired on October 31 at 9 p.m., walking away with Rs 50 lakh after a stellar performance opposite host Amitabh Bachchan.
From the moment Diljit took the hot seat, the studio buzzed with excitement. Amitabh Bachchan greeted him warmly as “Punjab da Puttar,” acknowledging his roots and adding a personal touch: “My mother was from Punjab too—she belonged to the Sodhi family.” He went on to share a brief anecdote about how his parents, Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Kaur, first met.
A Confident Start
Diljit answered the first 10 questions flawlessly, without touching a single lifeline. When Amitabh mentioned that contestants could earn back a used lifeline by answering five consecutive questions correctly, Diljit jokingly replied, “Sir, I haven’t used any yet. Maybe I should start now so I can earn them back later.”
The singer, known for his wit and easy charm, remained composed throughout, only pausing for lifelines on two tougher questions—one related to Doordarshan and another on the Ellora Caves.
Winning for a Cause
After clinching the Rs 50 lakh mark, Diljit announced that he would donate the entire amount to flood relief efforts in Punjab through the Global Sikh Foundation. “I wanted to play a little longer to help even more people, but time ran out,” he said with a smile, as the round’s hooter sounded.
Moments of Music and Laughter
During a lighthearted break, Amitabh asked Diljit to sing, and the Born to Shine star obliged with a few lines from the classic film Khuda Gawah. The crowd cheered as Amitabh joined in, recalling memories from the movie’s era.
A Testament to Wit and Warmth
At one point, when Diljit’s quick thinking earned him an advantage during the Pitara round, Amitabh praised him, saying, “I didn’t realize you were not just a brilliant singer, but also so sharp-minded.” Diljit laughed and went on to correctly answer six out of ten questions in that segment, securing an additional Rs 60,000.
Born in Dosanjha village near Jalandhar, Diljit’s real name is Daljit Singh Dosanjh. Over the years, he has become one of Punjab’s most beloved artists, seamlessly blending music, acting, and now a touch of quiz-show brilliance.
The episode ended on a heartfelt note, with Amitabh Bachchan congratulating Diljit for his generosity and calm under pressure. The audience rose in applause as the two shared a warm handshake—Punjab da Puttar walking away not just with prize money, but with hearts won across the nation.
