Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh's upcoming concert in Indore has come under scrutiny after authorities directed organisers to ensure that four of his popular tracks are not performed at the event. The action follows a complaint submitted by a Chandigarh-based professor, raising concerns over the possible impact of certain song lyrics on children attending the show.
The District Child Protection Officer, operating under the Women and Child Development Department in Indore, issued a letter on November 6 to the management of C-21 Mall, where the concert is scheduled for November 15. The communication calls for restrictions on the performance of four songs, citing concerns that their lyrics could negatively influence young audiences.
The tracks named in the directive are 'Patiala Peg', '5 Tara Theke', 'Jeb Vichon Labhiya' and 'Jatt Uthe Fire Karda Jitthe Pabandi Hathiyaran Di'.
Authorities cite Punjab and Haryana High Court order
The official communication refers to an order passed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on July 22, 2019. Citing the court's directions, the District Child Protection Officer has asked the organisers to ensure that the identified songs are excluded from the concert's programme.
The letter also states that children above the age of five will be allowed to attend the event. Authorities have expressed concern that the lyrics of the four tracks could have an adverse effect on young concertgoers, making the restrictions necessary.
Copies of the directive have been forwarded to the Indore Collector, the concerned revenue official, the Joint Director of the Women and Child Development Department and the SHO of Vijay Nagar police station.
Another controversy during Diljit’s India tour
The development comes after a complaint was raised in connection with an earlier concert, with the singer's performances facing scrutiny over song content. The latest directive has brought renewed attention to the issue as Diljit continues his India tour.
With the Indore show approaching, the organisers will have to ensure compliance with the instructions issued by the child protection authority. The concert is scheduled to take place at C-21 Mall on November 15.
