The first image showcases Diljit in a raw and emotional avatar, seated on the floor, wearing a simple kurta and turban. His face, bruised and bloodied, exudes pain, determination, and resilience, capturing the essence of his character.

The second image offers a softer glimpse into the personal life of his character, human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. It shows Diljit as Khalra, posing warmly with two children, hinting at the activist’s touching real-life story.

About Punjab ’95

The film is based on the life and legacy of Jaswant Singh Khalra, a prominent human rights activist from Punjab during the turbulent militancy period of the 1980s and 1990s. Khalra, who was a bank director in Amritsar, became a voice for justice after the events of Operation Blue Star, the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and the 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots.

During this period, Punjab police were accused of detaining individuals under the guise of counterterrorism, staging fake encounters, and disposing of thousands of bodies in secret. Khalra courageously investigated these atrocities, gathering evidence and testimonies to expose human rights violations.

Censorship Challenges

The film initially faced hurdles with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which suggested 120 cuts due to its sensitive subject matter. These challenges left the film's release uncertain. However, Diljit’s soaring global popularity and his advocacy for Punjabi culture seem to have revived the project, allowing it to move forward toward release.

Diljit’s Meeting with Prime Minister Modi

Amid his hectic schedule, Diljit recently met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, further fueling curiosity about his growing influence both within and beyond the entertainment industry.

Punjab ’95 promises to be a powerful cinematic portrayal of one man's fight for truth and justice, with Diljit Dosanjh delivering what is expected to be one of the most compelling performances of his career. Fans eagerly await the film's release as it aims to shed light on an often-overlooked chapter of Indian history.
