The trend of art cinema is flourishing in the Punjabi industry. The stream of art cinema has started getting recognition in the recent times. Punjabi film director- Gurvinder Singh is known for his art based feature films. Gurvinder Singh is known for his two award winning films- Anhe Ghore Da Daan ( Alms for the Blind Horse) and Chauthi Koot (The Fourth Direction) which premiered at Venice and Cannes Film Festival respectively.
Gurvinder Singh’s 2011 film ‘Anhe Ghore Da Daan’ won National Awards for Best Direction, Cinematography and Best Feature Film in Punjabi at the 59th National Film Awards of India. Singh’s second movie ‘Chauthi Loot’ won a National award for Best Feature Film in Punjabi at the 63rd National Film Awards of India. Along with the National Awards, both the films won many other prestigious international laurels too. After the two successful feature movies, Gurvinder Singh is all set for his third feature film.
Gurvinder Singh posted the news about his third movie on his social media handle. The title of the film is Adh Chanani Raat (Crescent Night) and is a culmination of Singh’s cinematic journey. The movie will be premiered at International Film Festival Rotterdam 2022. The movie has been inspired from Gurdial Singh’s famous novel ‘Crescent Night’.
The highlight of the movie is that popular Punjabi director- Jatinder Mauhar will play the lead in the movie. The feature film will mark Mauhar’s acting debut in the Punjabi industry. After Amberdeep Singh and Sagar S. Sharma, Jatinder Mauhar is the third director who has entered the alley of mainstream acting. Jatinder Mauhar has directed popular movies like Mitti, Sikander and Qissa Punjab and is now all set for this upcoming feature film.
The movie will be based on a rural backdrop. Along with Jatinder Mauhar, the movie will star John, Dharminder Kaur, Singh Jhinjher and Pubra. The team is looking forward to this exciting project.
