Mandeep Benipal is known for directing different and out of the box films. After making films like Ekam- Son of Soil, Sadda Haq, Yodhha, Kakaji and Dakuaan Da Munda, the director is ready to release another film which is different and has a fresh theme. The title of the film is DSP Dev and the film will hit the screens on 5 July. Being made under the banner of Dream Reality Films, Ravneet Chahal and White Hill Studios, the film stars Dev Kharoud and debutante Mehreen Pirzada in the lead. Manav Vij will be playing the negative character in the movie. The film will be released worldwide by the White Hill Studios.
With this movie, Mandeep Benipal is bringing a concept of cop films, which has not been explored much in the Punjabi film Industry. In an exclusive chat with Punjabi Mania, the director shared his experience of making this film.
Q. How was the whole journey of making this film?
A. The journey was great and we had a great time while making the movie. The experience was similar to what we had while making Kakaji and Dakuaan Da Munda, but this time we took a longer span to shoot, because this time the fun and enjoyment on the sets was more as we have become better friends now.
Q. How was the experience of working with Dev Kharoud once again ?
A. I had worked with Dev in Dakuaan Da Munda and Kakaji, and like before, this time also we had a good time working with each other. Now we have become more close to each other and we really enjoyed together on the sets. Acting wise, he is a great actor with a lot of talent and he works hard to make his characters even better, so it is always great to work with him.
Q. You are introducing Mehreen Pirzada in the Punjabi industry with this film. How was it working with her?
A. White Hill Studios had recommended Mehreen’s name for this role and she has done a great job. Her role is small, but she has played it with all dedication and honesty. She is a very talented artist and has good experience in Bollywood. She is looking very nice on the screen and this new lead pair will bring freshness to the film.
Q. Cop based movies are popular in Bollywood, but this concept has not been explored much in the Punjabi cinema. What made you choose this theme ?
A. The concept and the idea was by Dream Reality films. They wanted to make a cop film with Dev. From my side, I just processed the raw concept and tried to make a film which is original with its contents, and does not look copied from any cop based film. The writing team has worked extremely hard to make the story, script and dialogues different, new and interesting. I am very confident about the story and the plot of the film which is very different and fresh.
Q. What is the USP of this movie ?
A. The USP of the film is definitely it’s action as the movie has action which has never been seen in the Punjabi industry. Also, the hero and the villain duo- Dev and Manav Vij, is an interesting one and will be loved by the audience.
Q. How will you sum up the experience ?
A. It has been a great experience. The time was restrictive but we still have managed to make a great movie. I am very confident about Dev’s role as it is a new character and will be enjoyed by the audience.
Q. The film is nearing its release date, what are your feelings about the same ?
A. I am excited and a little nervous as well but I’m confident about the content of the film. We have tried to make this movie at big and commercial level and we are expecting a good response from the viewers.
