“Euphoric Moment”: Hema Malini Recalls Emotional Experience While Accepting Dharmendra’s Padma Vibhushan

Veteran actor Hema Malini has described the experience of receiving the Padma Vibhushan on behalf of her late husband Dharmendra as “euphoric,” sharing an emotional note after the ceremony held on May 25.

In her post-event message, Hema Malini reflected on the solemn yet proud moment when she stepped forward to accept the honour at the national awards function. She said the occasion felt deeply personal, adding that she experienced an overwhelming sense of Dharmendra’s presence as she approached the stage.

She also recalled watching distinguished achievers being recognised during the ceremony and described the atmosphere as dignified and memorable. According to her, the moment brought back a flood of memories from her long association with Dharmendra, both on screen and in life.

The actor spoke about their decades-long journey together, noting that thoughts of their shared experiences made the moment emotional and left her teary-eyed. She said the bond they shared continued to feel very present even in his absence.

In her tribute, Hema Malini described Dharmendra as a beloved figure in her life—highlighting his roles as a caring husband, affectionate father and grandfather, and a respected personality admired across the film industry. She added that his kindness and simplicity were qualities remembered by everyone who knew him.

She further thanked fans and admirers of the late actor, saying she accepted the award on behalf of the family as well as his millions of well-wishers.

Dharmendra, one of Indian cinema’s most iconic stars, passed away on November 24, 2025.
