Authorities have launched an investigation after social media personality Elvish Yadav reportedly received an extortion threat demanding Rs 10 crore, with the sender allegedly claiming links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Police sources said the threat was delivered through a WhatsApp message sent from an international number on May 5. According to the complaint filed by Yadav, an overseas call had first appeared on his phone, but he was unable to answer it. Soon afterward, threatening texts were allegedly sent to both him and his father.
The sender is said to have demanded the payment within 48 hours and warned of serious consequences if the amount was not paid. The message allegedly included threats to shoot the influencer if the demand was ignored.
A formal case has been registered at the police station in Gurugram, and the investigation has now been handed over to the Crime Branch. Officials are working to trace the source of the communication and verify whether the sender has any genuine association with the criminal gang named in the message.
The latest development has revived attention on a previous attack outside Yadav’s residence in August last year, when unidentified men on motorcycles allegedly fired several rounds near his home before escaping.
That incident had led to multiple arrests by law enforcement agencies, with suspects later taken into custody by crime units operating in Faridabad and Delhi.
Investigators are currently exploring whether the recent extortion threat has any connection to the earlier firing episode or if it is a separate case of intimidation using the gang’s name.
Police officials said forensic and digital evidence is being closely examined, while efforts are underway to identify those behind the message. No official response has yet been issued by Elvish Yadav regarding the latest threat.
