Mumbai Police are trying to uncover the identity of an individual who allegedly attempted to extort ?5 crore from Bollywood actor Tusshar Kapoor by claiming to represent the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
According to police sources, the actor received a threatening call from someone identifying himself as Harry Boxer, who allegedly demanded the money. Kapoor subsequently reported the matter to the authorities, leading to an investigation by the Anti-Extortion Cell and the Mumbai Crime Branch.
During the investigation, officials turned to technical evidence to establish whether the caller was actually connected to the gang. The Crime Branch's technical team examined the recorded conversation and compared the speaker's voice with audio samples of Harry Boxer available in its records.
The comparison reportedly produced no match. Senior police officials said the findings have raised the possibility that the caller deliberately impersonated a gang member to frighten the actor and pressure him into paying the demanded amount.
With the alleged gang connection now under scrutiny, investigators have shifted their attention towards identifying the individual behind the communication. Police are also attempting to trace the person who forwarded the threatening audio recording.
The investigation remains underway, and officials are examining the available evidence to determine the motive behind the extortion attempt and establish the identity of the caller.
