In an emotional gathering in Chandigarh, director Rakesh Mehta and producer Bally Singh Kakar revealed that a meaningful percentage of the upcoming Punjabi film Yamla’s earnings will be set aside for the family of the late singer-actor Rajvir Jawanda, who passed away earlier this year.
Jawanda, a beloved figure in Punjab’s entertainment industry, had already completed his role in Yamla, where he appears in one of the film’s most crucial characters. His passing left a profound void for the cast and crew, many of whom remembered him not just as an artist, but as a warm and grounded human being.
Mehta, visibly moved while addressing the audience, shared that the decision stemmed from both affection and responsibility.
“Rajvir wasn’t just the face of our story—he was the soul of it,” he said during the event. “His sincerity, work ethic, and kindness elevated every moment on set. Offering a share of the film’s revenue to his family is our way of keeping his light alive and standing beside those he loved.”
Producer Kakar, too, expressed deep respect for the late star, noting that Jawanda’s dedication could be felt in every scene he performed.
“He gave more than what was ever asked of him,” Kakar noted. “We want Yamla’s success to reflect not only the film’s journey but also Rajvir’s enduring contribution to Punjabi cinema.”
The filmmakers also urged audiences to come together and support Yamla upon its release, emphasizing that the film now carries an even deeper emotional resonance.
Mehta added, “We hope people across the world will join us in celebrating Rajvir’s artistry. Watching him on the big screen again is a chance to honour the remarkable legacy he has left behind.”
Yamla is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on 28 November 2025.
