Jalandhar: Police have registered an FIR against Punjabi singer Harinder Pal Singh Nijjar following allegations that gun culture was promoted during the shooting of his new music video at DAV College in Jalandhar.

The case was registered after photographs from the shoot surfaced, allegedly showing the display of weapons on the college premises. The incident has sparked concerns over the use of an educational institution as a location for content involving weapons.

An FIR (No. 304/2026) has been registered at Police Station Division No. 1, Jalandhar. According to police, action has been initiated under Sections 223 and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 25 to 30 of the Arms Act.

SP Mukhtiar Roy confirmed that the music video was being filmed at the college and said the police had taken cognisance of the alleged promotion of gun culture. He maintained that those found violating the law by openly displaying weapons or creating an atmosphere of fear would face legal action.

The police have also warned against promoting the display of weapons through social media and appealed to citizens to report such incidents to the authorities.

The controversy was also taken up by Professor MP Singh, who has been campaigning against gun culture. Singh expressed concern that a music video allegedly promoting weapons was filmed at DAV College, an institution known for its academic legacy and for producing prominent professionals, singers and officers.

Singh said the incident was particularly concerning at a time when Punjab authorities and the police are working to curb gangsterism and the influence of weapons among young people.

He has written to DAV management in Delhi seeking an inquiry into the circumstances under which the shoot was allowed on the campus. Singh has also approached Deputy Commissioner Varjit Walia, requesting an investigation into the matter.

Police have initiated further proceedings in the case, while the circumstances surrounding the music video shoot are being examined.
