Mumbai: Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations have returned to the Shetty-Kundra household, with actress Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra welcoming Lord Ganesha into their Mumbai home on September 13.

The couple marked the occasion with a traditional aarti and prayers, despite heavy rain across the city. Moments from the celebration were shared on social media, offering fans a glimpse of the family's annual festivities.

Shilpa appeared in a mint-green traditional ensemble as she participated in the rituals and welcomed Ganpati Bappa into the house.

A tradition that began 22 years ago

For Shilpa, the festival carries a significance that goes well beyond the celebrations. She has been bringing Lord Ganesha home for 22 years, making Ganesh Utsav an established tradition within the family.

Over the years, the actress and Raj Kundra have celebrated the festival with relatives and friends, combining traditional rituals with family gatherings. Their children have also grown up participating in the celebrations, making the occasion a shared family experience.

The family has also placed an emphasis on environmentally conscious festivities. This year, Shilpa once again opted for an eco-friendly Ganpati idol, reflecting her preference for a celebration that balances religious devotion with environmental responsibility.

Why the family did not celebrate in 2025

This year's festivities carry added emotional significance after the family skipped Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in 2025.

On August 25, 2025, Shilpa announced that the family would not celebrate the festival following a bereavement. She said the family would observe a 13-day mourning period and would therefore stay away from religious festivities.

At the time, she expressed how unusual it felt to have Bappa absent from her home after years of celebrating the festival. Despite not holding the usual festivities, she said she continued to feel blessed by Lord Ganesha.

Bappa's return brings festive cheer

With the idol returning to the Shetty-Kundra residence this year, the family has resumed a tradition that has been part of Shilpa's life for more than two decades.

The celebrations are not limited to elaborate decorations or rituals for the actress. They have also become an opportunity for the family to come together, express gratitude and seek blessings for health, happiness and prosperity.

After a year's pause, Ganpati Bappa's arrival has once again brought a familiar sense of devotion and celebration to the Shetty-Kundra home.
