The entertainment industry is once again gaining momentum after the long Covid break. But with new content come new controversies. The recent controversy that has created a huge buzz is wrapped around the superstar of Punjabi industry- Ammy Virk.
The farmer’s protest has been going on since months now and most of the Punjabi artists have supported it fully and openly. Many artists faced backlash from the protesters and the people of Punjab for not showing wholehearted support towards the protest. The recent star that has become the victim of farmer’s wrath is Ammy Virk.
Ammy Virk is getting backlash from the audience after the trailer release of of his Bollywood film ‘Bhuj- The Pride Of India’ and also because of his performance in B Praak’s recent track- ‘Filhaal 2’.
In ‘Bhuj- The Pride Of India’ Ammy has worked with Ajay Devgan, and in ‘Filhaal 2’ he has shared the frame with Akshay Kumar. Both the Bollywood stars have been boycotted by the Punjabi audience because they did not show any support towards the farmer’s protest, rather they had tweeted the ‘India Against Propaganda’ tweets and had said that these protests are an internal matter after global popstar Rihanna tweeted in support of the farmer’s movement in India.
These tweets by Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgan were not taken well by the Punjabi audience who openly declared boycotting of their work. Ammy Virk, had to face the same wrath after his collaboration with these two artists.
Ammy had worked on both projects much before the farmers protest came into picture. ‘Filhaal 2’ song was shot in the lockdown period before the protest, where as Ammy’s part in ‘Bhuj- The Pride Of India’ was shot in September 2019. The audience, who do not know about this fact, are extremely vexed at Ammy and have decided to boycott his work.
Many stars of the Punjabi industry have come out in support of Ammy Virk and have explained the circumstances to the audience. Gippy Grewal and Jass Bajwa openly came out in Ammy’s support and posted about the same on their social media handle. Ammy Virk’s friends and contemporaries including Jagdeep Sidhu, Maninder Buttar and many others have also posted stories in Virk’s support on their instagram handles.
Despite of doing such good work and participating actively in the farmer’s protest, Ammy became a victim of the audience’s fury and spleen. But on the positive side, it is heartening to see artists supporting each other and to see fraternity and brotherhood in the Punjabi industry. Ammy and his team are hoping that the audience will understand his circumstances and the fact that Ammy is equally supportive of the farmer’s protest as any other farmer in the state.
