The Punjabi film Godday Godday Chaa has been honoured with the Best Punjabi Film award at the 71st National Film Awards, celebrating its heartfelt storytelling and unique portrayal of Punjab’s cultural past.
Produced by Zee Studios and VH Entertainment, and written by Jagdeep Sidhu with direction by Vijay Kumar Arora, the family comedy-drama has captivated audiences since its release on 26 May 2023. The film stars Sonam Bajwa, Tania, Gitaj Bindrakhia, and Gurjazz in pivotal roles.
A Story Rooted in Punjab’s Cultural History
Set in the 1980s and 1990s, the film sheds light on an era when it was merely a dream for women in Punjab to attend wedding ceremonies. The story follows Rani (Sonam Bajwa), who is determined to change this tradition. With unwavering resolve, she joins forces with the women of her village and takes bold steps to ensure they can attend a "baraat" (wedding procession), challenging societal norms with courage and humour.
