Barnala Police have detained Saudagar Singh, the father of Shaganpreet Singh and former manager of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, in connection with the firing outside singer Gulab Sidhu’s ancestral residence.
Saudagar Singh was arrested in Khanna when he arrived there to appear before a court in a separate case linked to a shooting at Prem Vaishno Dhaba. Police subsequently informed Khanna City Police Station and brought him into the investigation concerning the Barnala shooting.
The case relates to an incident in Farwahi village during the early hours of September 13. According to investigators, three men riding a motorcycle reached Gulab Sidhu’s ancestral house. Two of them allegedly fired shots while the third reportedly recorded the approach on video.
Gulab Sidhu was not present at the residence when the firing took place.
Police have already arrested three people in connection with the alleged attack. Investigators have identified Balwinder Singh alias Kinda, sarpanch of Kotduna village, as the alleged mastermind.
The investigation has reportedly focused on a dispute involving Gulab Sidhu’s song Sarpanchi. Police allege that Balwinder Singh was upset over the song and had previously issued threats against the singer on social media.
Investigators have further alleged that the suspects were planning an attack during a live performance and intended to create fear before attempting to extort money. These allegations remain part of the ongoing investigation.
Gulab Sidhu, who was associated closely with Sidhu Moosewala, had reportedly been receiving threats and extortion demands. Following Moosewala’s killing in 2022, security measures for several Punjabi artists were reviewed, and Gulab Sidhu was provided two police personnel for protection.
Saudagar Singh’s questioning is now expected to help police establish whether he had any connection with the alleged conspiracy and determine whether other individuals were involved in the case.
