The residence of Punjabi singer Veer Davinder in Canada came under a gun attack after he allegedly refused to comply with an extortion demand, triggering concern among the local Punjabi community. The incident occurred in Calgary’s Redstone Common neighbourhood, an area known for its sizable South Asian population.

According to information shared by sources, the singer had received threatening calls demanding a ransom of $500,000 (around ?4 crore). The caller reportedly claimed to be “Anda Batala” and warned of dire consequences if the money was not paid. When the demand went unmet, the threats escalated.

Nearly three weeks after the initial warning, unidentified assailants opened fire at the singer’s house, discharging seven rounds. Three bullets pierced the glass exterior and entered a bedroom, highlighting the seriousness of the attack. Fortunately, Veer Davinder and his family were not present at home at the time, and no injuries were reported.

Local authorities have launched an investigation into the shooting and the alleged extortion attempt. Police are examining possible links between the threats and the attack, while security in the area has been heightened.

The incident has sparked concern among residents, particularly members of the Punjabi diaspora, who are calling for swift action and enhanced protection. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
