Renowned Punjabi actor and comedian Gurpreet Ghuggi has spoken out on the grim flood situation in Punjab, calling it one of the worst natural calamities the state has faced in decades. In a heartfelt video message, Ghuggi highlighted both the devastation and the resilience of Punjabis during the ongoing crisis.
“Punjab is witnessing one of the most destructive floods in its history, yet it has also revealed the unity and solidarity of our people,” he said. Expressing pride in the spirit of seva (selfless service), Ghuggi pointed out that Punjabis have always stood for others in their time of need, regardless of whether the gesture is reciprocated.
Responding to those questioning why other states have not extended the same support to Punjab, Ghuggi remarked, “We are the children of our Guru Sahibs. We don’t wait for others to serve us. We serve them.”
The actor also praised the youth of Punjab for their courage and collective efforts in relief and rescue operations, describing their contribution as an inspiring sign of hope amid tragedy.
At the same time, he expressed disappointment with sections of the national media, accusing them of neglecting to highlight the seriousness of the disaster. “When Punjab is suffering, the rest of the country should also pay attention. Sadly, the coverage has not reflected the scale of the crisis,” Ghuggi said.
His message comes as Punjab continues to battle widespread flooding that has left several districts submerged, causing loss of lives, damage to crops, and large-scale displacement of people.
