Mumbai: Punjabi singer Guru Randhawa has stepped forward to support families affected by the devastating floods in Assam, committing a total of Rs 12 lakh towards relief and rehabilitation efforts in the state.
Randhawa’s latest contribution includes Rs 7 lakh through the Sikh Aid Foundation, which will be used to help construct flood-resistant homes for affected families in Sivasagar, Jorhat and Nepali Khuti.
The singer had earlier pledged another Rs 5 lakh to Dimpui Baruah’s Hello Life Foundation to support the immediate needs of flood-affected people, including food, clothing and medicines.
From immediate relief to rebuilding homes
While relief material can provide short-term assistance, Randhawa’s latest initiative focuses on helping families rebuild after losing their homes to the floods.
Through the partnership with Sikh Aid Foundation, the singer is backing the construction of houses designed to withstand future flooding, offering affected families a more secure place to live as the state moves from emergency response towards rehabilitation.
The contribution comes amid a difficult flood season in Assam, where thousands of people have been affected and several areas have suffered extensive damage.
Randhawa has supported disaster relief before
This is not the first time Randhawa has extended financial assistance during a crisis.
During the Punjab floods, his team reportedly contributed towards rebuilding damaged homes while also helping farmers with wheat seeds and cattle feed.
The singer had also contributed Rs 20 lakh to the PM-CARES Fund during the COVID-19 pandemic, adding to his record of supporting relief efforts during emergencies.
With his latest contribution, Randhawa has chosen to go beyond one-time relief by supporting the rebuilding of homes in flood-hit Assam.
For the families who have lost their homes, the initiative could provide something more lasting than immediate aid — a chance to rebuild and start again.
