Here’s how Ammy Virk signed ‘Angrej’: The top-notch artist had made his feature film debut in Simerjit Singh’s ‘Angrej’ in 2015.
Notable singer-turned-actor-turned-producer Ammy Virk will complete half-a-decade in the Punjabi film industry next month. Virk, who was last seen in Jagdeep Sidhu’s ‘Sufna‘ earlier this year, had made his feature film debut in Simerjit Singh’s ‘Angrej’ (2015) five years ago on this day (July 31).
Unequivocally an A-lister among contemporary Punjabi actors, Virk has achieved the status on the back of delivering both critically and commercially successes in his five-year career so far.
Virk, who had started to do the rounds since his first single track titled ‘Chandigarh Diyan Kudiyan’ released in 2011, once opened up on how he managed to star opposite superstar Amrinder Gill in Simerjit Singh’s ‘Angrej’.
Here’s how Ammy Virk signed ‘Angrej’
Speaking to actress Surveen Chawla during Famously Filmfare Punjabi on MX Player, Virk disclosed how him receiving his first-ever narration from writer Amberdeep Singh left him blank altogether.
“In 2014, I was on a tour with [Amrinder] Gill sahab in Australia. Karaj [Gill] bhaji was also there. We get along well. After we came back, they had plans of starting Angrej. Amber [Amberdeep Singh] bhaji gave me the narration and he was like we should work together. I agreed but also mentioned that I don’t know how will I do it. I was like I’ll do whatever you tell me to.
“He narrated me my part. I just didn’t understand anything. It was the first time that I was hearing a narration. Amber bhaji narrates scripts so fast that it can become difficult to understand [laughs],” Virk was quoted as saying on Famously Filmfare.
Virk, who hardly reacted regarding the outcome of the narration, appeared to have created some confusion as makers Rhythm Boyz Entertainment took his silence for a refusal.
“Neither he [Amberdeep Singh] asked me if I liked it or not nor I commented on it that day. Then I called Karaj bhaji the next day and asked him about my reporting day. He had thought that I disliked the film as I didn’t say anything.
“But I didn’t say anything on the previous day because everyone was sitting over there and I was nervous [to respond]. Amber bhaji is a champion. He said, ‘Ammy, you have to say this in this tone’. That’s it,” Virk said.
Other than Virk, Angrej also witnessed the debut of two actresses in Sargun Mehta and Aditi Sharma. Having already delivered a blockbuster in ‘Qismat’, both Virk and Mehta will now be seen together on the silver screens in ‘Qismat 2‘.
