Monica Bedi has made a comeback in the world of acting. She will appear in Punjab film, ‘Sirphire’. The movie will be releasing in September. Here we interview, Monica, about her experiences in the movie and her life.

Q: You are from Punjab. But you are now appearing in a Punjabi Movie. Any special reason for this?

A: When I came to Film Industry, apart from Hindi movies, I did films in Tamil, Telugu, Kannad, Gujarati and Bangla. My father used to say, Punjabi is our mother tongue, you should go for a Punjabi movie. Even I, myself wanted to do a Punjabi movie. But the movies offered to me did not have any potential. I saw potential in ‘Sirphire’ and said yes for it.

Q: What is your role in Sirphire?

A: I am doing a role of a simple and sober girl. My character’s name is Simran who hails from Chandigarh. She studies in a local college. In her college there are guys who are mischievous, who drink. The story is how Simran brings them back to the right track. Harjit Singh Ricky is the director of the movie. Priyanshu Chatterjee, Preet Harpal, Gurleen Chopra are with me in the movie. This is a full on entertainment movie.

Q: With this movie you faced camera after a long time. How was the experience?

A: As far as films are concerned, Jodi No. 1 in 2011 was my last film. Then I want away from the world of acting. Now after 11 years, I made a comeback. When I was shooting for Sirphire, I didn’t felt that I was shooting after 11 long years. Yes, before this movie, I participated in reality shows like Bigg Boss, Jhalak Dikhla Ja and Desi Girl. Bigg Boss – 2 was my first show after comeback. Then I had to just say, “Hi, I am Monica Bedi. You will see me in Big Boss’ house,” in front of the camera. I was very nervous speaking these two lines. But now my old self-confidence is back. So there were no such problems in the shooting of Sirphire.

Q: Since you have started a new life now. Who helped you the most?

A: Definitely TV helped me the most. When I was clueless about how to start a new life, TV opened new doors for me. I did shows like Bigg Boss, where world came to know about my acting. After this I also appeared in Jhalak Dikhla Ja -3 and Desi Girl. These shows also helped me earn some money.

Q: Are you still in contact with your Bigg Boss inmates?

A: Yes, I am in contact with Diana and Sambhavana Seth. During Desi Girl I lived in a village. There I lived in someone’s house, whom I used to call Uncle and Aunty. Their daughters Pooja and Sunita keep on sending me sms.

Q: You are back in Film Industry after 11 years. What differences do you feel in movies today?

A: There is a sea change in film making techniques. New types of tools are used now days. The budgets have increased and the ways of promotion too. The budget, in which a good Hindi movie can be made, is the budget in which Punjabi Movies are made today.

Q: Would you like to do more Punjabi movies in the future?

A: My experience with Sirphire was very good. Doing this film, I realized how high the Punjabi Movies have reached. Today Punjabi movies are shot abroad. I did first item number of my life in Sirphire. I really loved doing this song, Patang Wali Dor. When the first experience was very good, then why shouldn’t I do more Punjabi movies? I want to do more Punjabi movies and work with big directors of Punjabi Movies.
