Iftikhar Thakur’s Role Slashed in ‘Chal Mera Putt 4’ After Backlash Over Controversial Remarks: Report

0% Liked

Pakistani comedian-actor Iftikhar Thakur appears to be facing professional consequences following his inflammatory statements against India and the Punjabi film industry. The upcoming installment of the popular franchise, ‘Chal Mera Putt 4’, has drastically reduced his screen time, signaling a clear response to the backlash, a report stated.

Minimal Presence in the Trailer

The film’s trailer, unveiled on Sunday, prominently showcases several Pakistani actors but noticeably sidelines Thakur. He appears in only five brief scenes, with a single line of dialogue placed at the very end.

What has caught the attention of viewers is the nature of his final scene. Immediately after his dialogue, his character is humiliated on screen, being told: “You lack dignity and self-respect.” Many believe this pointed line serves as a veiled commentary on Thakur’s controversial public image.

Why was his role cut?

Thakur has long been criticized for his derogatory remarks about the Punjabi industry and his anti-India rhetoric, which intensified after Operation Sindoor. Following the Pahalgam terror attack, he sparked outrage with a threatening statement: “If you come through the air, you will be blown away; if you come through sea water, you will be drowned; if you come through land routes, you will be buried.”

Thakur’s brief appearances in the trailer occur at 1:15, 1:43, 2:37, and 3:12 minutes, with his only dialogue heard during his fifth and final scene. This concluding moment, marked by an insulting line directed at his character, has been interpreted as an intentional effort to diminish his significance in the film.

A Message to Thakur

Despite his earlier claim that the Punjabi film industry has invested “Rs 300–350 crore in Pakistani talent” and cannot succeed without their involvement, the makers of ‘Chal Mera Putt 4’ seem determined to prove otherwise. His reduced role appears to send a clear message: the franchise can thrive without him.

Ban in India

Although the film is banned in India, it is set to release overseas on August 1.
