The modern contemporary Punjabi cinema has made its mark in the hearts of the people. When it comes to the quality, the movies have improved a lot in this decade. Whether it is about the genuine content or commercial business which follows, the last two years have seen the industry flourishing immensely viz a viz both these points. The odds that a successful Punjabi movie comes sporadically have decreased to a large extent.
But, is making booming Punjabi movies the only thing that our industry should look forward to? What about the other challenges?
The co-existing film industries in India and abroad have made the big shift as far as TV shows are concerned. Producers and film-makers have realised the fact that a series on the television can claim the same accolades like a movie which releases on the big screen. The constant boom in the digital world, which has given the audiences numerous options to watch a particular TV series online has also helped the cause.
Not that any TV series has never been made in the Punjabi industry. It’s just that with the changing times, these serials should also go through the transformation. Nowadays, with a profusion of options available, the audience tends to not watch a particular thing if it doesn’t excites them or if the content does not have a hint of freshness to it.
Filling this gap, PTC Punjabi has come up with a brand new TV series, ‘Ikk Kahaani’. By the first looks of it, it appears to be a series, wherein four to five different stories will run at the same time. These stories are likely to be inspired from real life incidents that have happened in Punjab over the years. The series is being produced under the banner of ‘Rockett Mind Production’ and is expected to go on air in September.
With Roshan Prince, Dolly Ahluwalia, Jaspinder Cheema, Gurjit Singh and others as the cast, the series should give a fresh taste to the Punjabi audience in Punjab and overseas. It will also be enthralling to see Ik Kudi Punjab Di’s Navdeep Sidhu (Jaspinder Cheema) sharing the screen with her real-life husband, Gurjit Singh, for the first time.
