Jass Grewal on Ik Sandhu Hunda Si: The prominent writer shared interesting anecdotes regarding his next movie and the writer’s role in the Punjabi industry.

Answering if writers get their due credit in the Punjabi film industry or not in a recent interview while promoting Sufna‘, writer-director Jagdeep Sidhu had answered in the affirmative claiming the likes of Amberdeep Singh, Naresh Kathooria and Jass Grewal as pioneering figures in the field of writing.

Speaking in a promotional interview for ‘Ik Sandhu Hunda Si’, writer Grewal laid emphasis on writer-turned-director-turned-actor Amberdeep Singh playing a pivotal role in making sure that writers get what they deserve.

“I am taking Amberdeep [Singh] bai’s name because he is senior to me [in the industry]. There was a time when the writer’s name used to be at the bottom of a poster. In Angrej [2015], Amberdeep was the first writer [in the Punjabi film industry] who had made sure that his name was written right below the director’s name.

‘Bambukat’ was slated to release a little while [one year] after Angrej. I made sure that they had mentioned my name at the top of the poster, right below the director’s name. It became a trend after that. While Jaggi [Jagdeep Sidhu] has done well, I must also mention the names of my seniors such as Dheeraj Rattan and Naresh Kathooria [for raising the bar in the writing department],” Grewal was quoted as saying by Punjabi Mania.

Jass Grewal on Ik Sandhu Hunda Si

Quashing all reports of Ik Sandhu Hunda Si being inspired by any former Panjab University Party President, Grewal disclosed how he first got the idea of the movie after listening to singer-turned-actor Sharry Maan’s iconic song titled ‘Yaar Anmulle’ [2010].

“The movie has been inspired from Sharry Maan’s super-hit song titled ‘Yaar Anmulle’. As far as the surname Sandhu is concerned, it has been derived from my cousin brother Ratanjot Singh Sandhu.

“The title of the movie has been inspired from the line ‘Ik Samri Hunda Si…’ [from the same song]. The movie is sort of an extended version of the song. I am sure that people will relate to the movie and will be reminded of their college time,” Grewal said.

It is evident from the trailer of Ik Sandhu Hunda Si that most of the characters will be called by their surnames. Being questioned regarding the selection of surnames, Grewal revealed that the movie is a fictional story of some people he knows and that only names/surnames have been derived and not their real-life stories.

“People keep asking me as to why I have used the surnames which I have used in this movie. I have written this movie after getting inspired from some people whom I’ve met in my life. Those people had the exact surnames.

“Ranbir Singh Grewal, one of my cousins, used to be the Party President in his college back in the day. The character is inspired from him but not from his life. You can say that it is a fictional story of some people I know. I have picked different characters and wrote a script around them. I do this every time,” Grewal further added.

Ik Sandhu Hunda Si will hit the silver screens on this Friday, i.e., February 28. Directed by Rakesh Mehta, the movie stars Gippy Grewal, Neha Sharma, Roshan Prince, Pavan Malhotra, Vikramjeet Virk, Babbal Rai, Dheeraj Kumar, Raghveer Boli, Jasprem Dhillon, Anmol Kwatra and others.
